Betty Haig 2010 Grand Marshal of Snowmobile Torchlight Parade-1/4/2010
The Boonville Snow Festival Committee is proud to announce Betty Haig, 81, Constableville, as the 2010 Snowmobile Torchlight Parade Grand Marshal, which will kick off the 4th annual Snow Festival races scheduled January 29-31.
Betty was born and raised in Oswego, NY, and has no siblings. She graduated from Oswego High School and attended college at Penn State/ Bucks Community College. Besides snowmobiling, Betty’s interests have included bowling, dancing, and camping. She now enjoys photography, journalism and reading.
Betty was a professional secretary for over 50 years and retired in 1997. Presently she is employed by the Boonville Herald as a correspondent for Constableville, photographer and contributing writer .
Betty is married to Harold Haig, who is a Retired Air Force M/Sgt. They have two sons, Harold Jr. and wife Linda and David. They also have three grandchildren, Frank, Michael, and Jessica
The couple has resided in many places, including Oswego for 25 years; Bucks County, PA (Levittown and Warminster) for 32 years, and they moved to New York in 1985 upon Harold’s retirement .
The couple joined The Lost Trail Snowmobile Club in 1986 when snowmobiling was a big interest. Harold became a groomer driver, and Betty became the corresponding secretary in 1989 and is to this very day. Betty handles all correspondence, memberships, and insurance. She is also the editor of the newsletter, updates the website, and has worked with safety courses for 18 years. She also handles the Club’s customer relations.
Unfortunatley, she does not ride any more due to physical ailments, but she enjoys the camaraderie of the club members and continues to do what she can to make it the best snowmobile club in the North Country.
“Betty is a great asset to the world of snowmobiling. Her dedication to the sport and her active involvement in the Lost Trail Snowmobile Club will forever make her an icon in the sport of snowmobiling,” said Jennifer Fruin, vice president of the Boonville Snow Festival.
The Torchlight Parade will get underway at 7 p.m. Friday, January 29, in the Village of Boonville and will end at the Boonville Fairgrounds. Opening ceremonies and a blessing of the track will take place in front of the fair grandstand, followed by a beautiful fireworks display by Majestic Fireworks, Clinton.
