FLAGS PLACED AT VETERANS’ GRAVES
Boonville’s American Legion Post #406 annually decorates veterans’ graves with an American Flag to honor them on Memorial Day for their service to the country. They decorate the Boonville Cemetery, as well as six other smaller cemeteries surrounding the Boonville area. The amount of flags has increased yearly, and this year they required just under 1,000. Al Salmon is chairman of this flag-decorating committee. Shown above are three of the 25-plus volunteers, from left: Chris Panik, Donna Douglas and Grant LaQuay. Beside the Legion volunteers, many of the volunteers were young teenage boys, who were scattered all over the hills of the cemetery placing flags.  (Photo by Betty Haig)

Open House Held During EMS Week
In conjunction with Emergency Medical Services Week, May 18-24, the Constableville Volunteer Fire Company hosted an open house on Sunday, May 18, offering free blood pressure checks, emergency first aid packets, pencils, “File of Life” cards, and refreshments. Visitors were also able to check out the
company’s new ambulance. Pictured above is Lorne Gingerich, left, having his blood pressure checked by EMT Reggie Platt during the open house. The Boonville Herald salutes all EMS personnel (see photos of area EMTs on Pages 16-17.)  (Photo by Betty Haig)

RELAY FOR LIFE FUND-RAISER

A Community Garage/Craft Sale was held on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Kiwanis Building at the Boonville Fairgrounds, to raise funds for the upcoming Relay for Life, which will take place at the Fairgrounds on May 30 and 31. Over 25 teams are participating in this year’s event, and several of them were raising money by selling items at the Community Garage/Craft Sale. Pictured above are Jeannie and Cindy Wiedmer, members of “Team Spirit” - The Wiedmers, one of the new teams that joined this year. The public is encouraged to stop by the Boonville Relay for Life, which will get underway at 6 p.m. Friday, May 30, and continue until 9 a.m. Saturday, May 31. Members from each team will be on the track all night long. Teams will also be selling food, refreshments, raffles, etc., and there will be a Chinese auction inside the Kiwanis Building.
