Record-Breaking
Temperatures
Last week saw record-breaking warm temperatures throughout the North
Country. The average high in Boonville on Tuesday, January 8, was
around 58-59 degrees, as shown in the picture at left taken by Tom
Podkowka at his home on Academy Street, Boonville. According to
George Capron of WBRV radio station, this is a record for this date
for at least the past 35 years. Some thermometers, depending on
their location, had even higher temperatures, with one on Route 12
showing 70 degrees (see Page 10). The warm weather, which melted
most of the winter’s snow, was followed by very high winds on
Wednesday, due to a fast-moving cold front. The powerful winds
caused damage and power outages in many areas, especially north of
Boonville (see photos on Page 10). The rest of the week was mild and
quiet, with snow returning to Boonville on Monday, January 14.
JUST
HORSING AROUND IN JANUARY
The recent mild weather even brought out horses in Boonville. This
photo was taken on Thursday afternoon, January 10, in the Burger
King parking lot at the Headwaters Plaza on Route 12, Boonville.
And, with the price of gas, it’s definitely a cheaper way to travel,
providing the horses don’t eat too many Whoppers!

NEW
SALVAGE TRUCK
The Boonville Fire Company took delivery of a new salvage truck on
December 21, 2007. It is a 2007 Peterbilt chassis with a KME body.
It has an on-board generator, a fill station for air packs, and
seating for 10 firefighters. The Fire Company was able to purchase
this truck through generous donations from the public.
