ICE UNDERWAY FOR “ADIRONDACK CUP” RACING
Perfect weather arrived January 2 and 3 for making ice on the track
on the Boonville Fairgrounds in preparation for the 2008 Snow
Festival II. Track workers have been busy night and day, during
freezing temperatures, spraying water on the track in hopes to build
at least 12 to 18 inches of ice before the scheduled ice oval racing
on January 25, 26 and 27. The Snow Festival II Committee, in
conjunction with the Kiwanis, hopes to once again host “Family
Skating” on the track the weekend before the races, but that date is
tentative and depends on whether the track has a sufficient amount
of ice to feature snowmobile races. The track workers may need that
weekend to continue building and smoothing the ice. For more

LET IT SNOW
During Christmas break, Mother Nature delivered a gift of fluffy
white snow across the North Country. Several inches of snow
accumulated the last week in December, making it fun for outside
activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, making
snowmen, etc. Above, Nicholas Pfendler and Matthew Currier of
Forestport were having a blast frolicking in the snow on New Year’s
day. Following New Year’s, a cold front with sub-zero temperatures
set in, returning to above normal temperatures the following week,
causing much of the snow to melt. As of noon, Monday, January 7, it
was 48 degrees, which was a record for the past 30 years for
Boonville, according to George Capron of WBRV Radio Station. He said
the forecast called for one more day of record-breaking
temperatures, followed by high winds and a cool down. (Photo
